YRF’s Spy Universe grows with War 2, as Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR clash in a high-stakes action thriller set to shake up Bollywood.

War 2 ranks among the most anticipated Indian films of 2025, bringing together two of Indian cinema’s biggest stars — Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR — for a mega reunion.
The film is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films as a key installment in the expanding YRF Spy Universe.
War 2 hits theatres on August 14, 2025, just in time for the Independence Day holiday rush, and releases in both standard and IMAX formats.
The Mega Reunion: Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR
- Hrithik Roshan reprises his role from the original War (2019), while Jr NTR joins the franchise, creating unprecedented excitement among fans for their first on-screen face-off.
- The film also stars Kiara Advani in a leading role
The On-Screen Face-Off
- Director Ayan Mukerji says crafting the Hrithik Roshan vs Jr NTR face-off in War 2 was the most challenging and time-consuming part of the film.
- The teaser, dropped on Jr NTR’s birthday, teased intense action on planes and trains, sparking buzz that War 2 could be YRF’s biggest spy film yet.
Unique Promotional Strategy
- In a move designed to heighten anticipation, YRF has decided that Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR will not promote the film together.
- This strategy is intended to preserve the impact of their on-screen rivalry, ensuring the first time audiences see them together is in the film itself.
- This approach mirrors the promotional tactics used for other YRF blockbusters, such as Pathaan, where the cast avoided joint media appearances to maintain suspense
Telugu Release & Producer Reunion
- Naga Vamsi has acquired the Telugu distribution rights, celebrating a reunion with Jr NTR after their collaborations on Aravindha Sametha and Devara. He promises fans will “witness the man of masses like NEVER before” in this film.
- The Telugu rights reportedly fetched around ₹80 crore, reflecting the film’s massive pan-India appeal.
War 2 aims to be a landmark in Indian cinema with its star power, grand action, and storytelling—promising a thrilling big-screen experience.
Jr NTR has spoken about creative differences with director Ayan Mukerji during shooting, noting their contrasting working styles—NTR being instinctive and Mukerji preferring extensive preparation. Producer Aditya Chopra played a mediating role during these moments
