Kantara: Chapter 1 — Rishab Shetty’s Bold Profit-Sharing Move
Rishab Shetty, the writer-director-actor behind the Kannada blockbuster Kantara (2022), has taken a significant leap in the industry.
For the upcoming prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, he has secured a profit-sharing deal, joining the ranks of stars like Yash who have leveraged their influence for better returns.
Then why It Matters
- Industry Shift — This move symbolizes a growing trend in Sandalwood where leading actors demand higher stakes, not just fixed paychecks
- Confidence in the Project — It reflects confidence in the prequel’s potential—riding on the massive reception of Kantara
- Sensible Strategy — Considering the film’s scale and cultural depth, it’s a smart move for both the actor and the producers, as they stand to mutually gain from the shared success.

Rishab Shetty, who earned ₹4 crore for Kantara, may now earn ₹50–100 crore with a new profit-sharing deal worth up to 25× more.
This positions him as a forward-thinking star-producer, taking a bigger slice of the pie.
